01/21/2007 - Denver, CO (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Andrew Brunette scored the game-winning goal as the Colorado Avalanche headed into the All-Star break with a 3-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings at the Pepsi Center.

Ian Laperriere scored his first goal in 36 games and Joe Sakic also lit the lamp for the Avalanche, who have won three of their last four games.

Peter Budaj finished the game with 27 saves for Colorado, which has an overall record of 24-20-3.

"It feels great, it was a sellout, the games are always special with them being a big rival," said Budaj. We did the best we could, both them and us."

Colorado snapped a seven-game losing streak against Detroit.

Valtteri Filppula scored the lone goal and Joey McDonald finished the game with 28 saves for the Red Wings, who have dropped their last two games after a five-game winning streak.

"We got into some penalty trouble in the third and I think that was the difference," said MacDonald.

Detroit has a 30-14-5 record at the break.

The game was tied heading into the third period, but Colorado grabbed the lead halfway through the final frame.

Paul Stastny took a hard shot from the left circle that MacDonald slowed down with the glove, but the rebound sat right on the doorstep and Brunette tapped it in with 10:08 to play.

Detroit had trouble establishing any pressure as the team was called for two minor penalties after the Colorado goal.

The Red Wings pulled their goaltender with a little over a minute to play, but the Avs finished the job when Sakic put the puck in the open net with just 42 seconds left in the game.

The Avs took a 1-0 lead in the first when Laperriere banged in his second rebound attempt from down low for his second goal of the year 9:45 in.

"This year I'm having a hard time finding the back of the net," said Laperriere. "I made a career out of working hard and I will do whatever is needed, but I know that I have more than two goals in me."

Detroit, though, tied the game with 4:35 left in the first when Jonathan Franzen flew into the Colorado zone and unleashed a shot from the right circle. Budaj made the save, but Filppula was right there to bang in the rebound for his fifth goal of the season.

Neither team was able to get on the scoreboard in the second period as Detroit had 12 shots and Colorado seven, with both teams also having one power play opportunity.

The Wings will look to offensive powerhouse Pavel Datsyuk and newly appointed captain Nicklas Lidstrom to lead one of the league's most prominent franchises.

Always a threat are the Ottawa Senators, with newly acquired goaltender Martin Gerber from the Stanley Cup champion ,Carolina Hurricanes. The Sens are second best in the rankings at a 7-1 bet, and odds makers at this sportsbook are optimistic that the Ottawa squad will fare better than last season's Eastern Conference semi-final upset to the Buffalo Sabres.

Also worth noting are the defending Stanley Cup champs Carolina Hurricanes, a 10-1 bet to repeat. Behind the Canes are the New Jersey Devils, Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, Philadelphia Flyers, and Anaheim Mighty Ducks all sit at 12-1.
